We love to read!

>> Saturday, March 26, 2011

We all love to read.  I have loved to read since I read Lurlene McDaniel when I was about 13 years called, "I want to Live" and the first one, "Six months to Live".  I moved on to books by Danielle Steel.  I read them nonstop.

I still read, but it's my Bible and Christian books about being submissive, being a homemaker, being a better mother, etc...
My girls are learning to love to read also.  Since we homeschool I have a "reading class" where they read 30 minutes straight on a book of their choice - tho they read other times of the day on their own.  I'm very thrilled about this.

Hannah Joy loves books!  While the girls were reading, she and I rounded up about six books for her to read.  I found 4 more at a garage sale today for 25 cents each and got them.  She picked 2 more for the same price so she came home with six more books!  She was super happy!

Sarah Faith reading during her 30 minute "reading" class.
She enjoys it also!  Never a complaint!

Madi Grace is really into a book her Dad told her about that he read when he was young.  It's huge and tiny, tiny print but she's about half way done with it and loving it.

Thank God for books!

Heartschooling

>> Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Three weeks ago, Madi Grace asked if we could do pajama days on Mondays.  I said, "sure!"  Anything to make school more fun and exciting on Mondays!  We are sticking to that.  We were out last week but we had pajama day again today.

Something I have added to our school is another class called Creative Writing.  Each day the girls are assigned 3 things to put together in a picture on the front and a writing on the back to create a story.  Some days they get to choose their own 3 items.  It's been fun adding that in!  I love seeing their imaginations come out!
Madi Grace is wanting to learn French.  So, I am going to be looking for a good way online to teach her french where we can hear the word pronounced properly.  That way we do not just know the word, we will also know how to speak it.  I think this will be fun.  I love spanish and they've learned some of that but Madi Grace is really, really wanting to learn FRENCH!  So, I'm going with it!

Anything new in your heartschooling that you have added in?

Today at a Glance

Today was Pajama Day for us!  :)
It was Madi Grace's idea and I thought it would be fun for them so I let them wear their pajamas all day long!  :)

Here they are working on school.
(we are using Learning Adventures and Life Pacs)
((thank goodness we have a good library))

Today, while they were doing school, Hannah Joy was playing the Kinect.  She was playing kinectimals.  (it's a sweet animal game)  She loves playing that or Adventures or the Dance game!

After I finished school with the girls, we did our daily "Hannah school."  Hannah Joy enjoys this and is learning so much.
One of my sisters, KJ, made me great flash cards and laminated them and we have been using those.  So, today we got them out and we again worked on our color names and our shapes.  She did a super job.  Then, I decided to go through all the sounds and re-evaluate where she is in her speech.  Last year when she was evaluated she knew less than half of her sounds.  She has apraxia.  Well, I was OVERJOYED to find today that she has all of her sounds except we are struggling with the sounds of L, X & Z.
She did a great job in school and afterwards she got fruit snacks!  You can see she was quite happy about that!  I give her a treat every day after "Hannah School" when she truly tries and does her best.

All the girls snugged up on the couch.
Look at Hannah and her tongue sticking out!
Silly girl!  She was supposed to be smiling at the camera!  LoL!

The, the girls got up to the table to be creative for a while.  I got the scissors and the rest of the foam paper with marked cut outs on them out for Hannah Joy.  My sister, KJ, created a really cool birthday gift for her last year and it had all kinds of awesome stuff in it.  This was part of it.  (still kept in her box after each use)  She doesn't get the concept of cutting on the lines yet but she was wanting to cut them.  Since it's been almost a year since she got them, I let her have at them.  She cut for over 2 hours and cried when it was time to put the scissors away.  Notice, Hannah didn't wear her pj's today - instead, she wore her Dora the Explorer dress up shirt and didn't put the skirt on!  hee hee...

Madi Grace got the idea somewhere to put up little post it notes in a "collage style" on the wall and asked if I had any.  I did and she was designing on them.  Sarah Faith decided to do the same.  They are allowed to stick them up on the inside of their closet door.  They had a fun time drawing and creating on them to create their collage.

Here is Sarah Faith working on hers.  I don't know how that string of hair in her face wasn't driving her batty!  She also wrote me a sweet one that said she loved me.

It was a wonderful day.. full of fun and giggles!
I am SOOOOOO blessed!

A Normal School Day at Our Home

>> Monday, January 10, 2011

Here's a picture of a regular school day here.
We were finishing up learning about Ancient Egypt.
Hannah Joy was coloring with markers as we worked.
She likes to do that when we're doing school.
I work with her on what the color names are as she colors and the girls are busy with something else where they aren't needing me at the time.  So she is doing "school" a bit too!  :)

Today, I took a picture of the girls doing their school work.
I want them to have sort of an annual here as well as their journal for when they grow up and read it.  :)

.......and no, Dad doesn't like the cat at all.....  (LOL)
He got her a heart name tag in purple with her name on it.
Pawsh.  Sorry the pic is real close up.  I just wanted you to see the heart and her name on it quite well!  :)  Smiles!

Homeschool & New Routine

>> Monday, October 18, 2010

We are working on a new routine with homeschool being first priority  but not losing sight of the routine we've been on with the house.  (keeping it clean all the time)  Today we worked on a new routine mixed in with our schooling.  For example, we unloaded & reloaded the dishwasher right before we started school.  It took about 15 minutes but gave us a nice, head start!  They took a short break while I made lunch and I did a few things while they ate and then they started a load of towels after they ate.  They got a 5 minute longer break after eating and then we did some review of what we had done so far and went on.  After school we swept and mopped the kitchen, etc...   Today has been long because I had to get some more school supplies tonight which meant a trip to wal mart.  (ugh, I hate going there now!)  I have everything reviewed and ready for tomorrow but I have been going 90 to nothing with a few short breaks as they worked on worksheets after I taught them that subject where I could sit down and check some email and a couple blogs.  It's almost 11 PM and I want to change the cat box and head to bed.  I change it twice a week.. the day before trash day and the trash comes on Tues and Fri so I am getting it done tonight and ready to go out tomorrow.  Yawn.......it was a great day and as my Nanny would say, "a good tired."  Papers are graded and in their binders.  We're all set for tomorrow!  :)
